Land Rover’s and Off Roading | Woodvale Show 2007
Land Rover’s and Off Roading
Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles, have always been renowned for their exceptional off road capabilities. Each year, during my childhood, my family and I would go on a summer holiday to my aunt & uncle’s farm in Wiltshire. Whilst staying on the farm, I spent many happy hours being driven through the fields, mud and rough terrain, in old battered farm Land Rover’s and Massey Ferguson Tractors. I had a great time, which is probably why I came to love Land Rover’s.
Throughout the years, I have owned five different Land Rover’s, being consistently impressed by their ability to navigate challenging winter road conditions and extreme off-road environments.

As a result, I became committee member and Webmaster for the former ‘Liverpool Land Rover Society’ or LLRS, a club for like minded enthusiasts of the iconic Land Rover marque. The members of LLRS, enjoyed taking their vehicles off road, the challenge of conquering steep hill climbs and descents, deep water wading and conquering the obstacles and mud in a former quarry, re-designed as an off road course.
Our regular club activities included organised camping trips as well as organised visits to dedicated off road centres, where members could put their own vehicles through their paces, both safely and legally. It was great fun…

Woodvale Show 2007
As well as our camping and Off Road trips, LLRS members enjoyed attending events. One such occasion was the excellent Woodvale show near Ainsdale, Southport. Whilst attending Woodvale in 2007, LLRS built quite an imaginatively designed static display of a Land Rover that had sunk in mud up to its cab. I’d love to take credit for this, but neither the idea or the build was down to me. Our display turned out to be quite a hit with many people coming to see the stricken Land Rover buried deep in the mud for themselves. Amazingly the popularity of our display, meant LLRS won the ‘Club Event, 1st Trophy’ that year.
As a result of our win, I was approached to contribute an article with photographs of our winning display for the ‘Club Scene’ section of the popular November 2007 edition of “Land Rover monthly” magazine.
