I transferred from Warrington Arpley to Birkenhead Central depot on the Merseyrail network, for promotion to Train Driver in early 1988. Whilst at Merseyrail, doing my British Rail MP12 driver training course, I enjoyed the daily adventure of driving trains through the River Mersey Railway Tunnel and Loop Line.
Many years later, I was given an extremely rare opportunity to walk into the single bore tunnel on the Merseyrail loop line, from Liverpool Central Low Level. The visit took place during the big upgrade in March 2017.
